On this page: Set spending and screen time limits so there are no surprises. ~3 min.
Start locked down. You can always loosen these later once you understand how your child uses Roblox. We'll go deeper on spending and screen time in Level 2.
Step 1: Set a Spending Limit
Parental Controls → Spending restrictions → Monthly spending limit → enter an amount → Update.
- Start with $0 or a small amount you're comfortable with (e.g. $5/month)
- The limit resets at the end of each calendar month — it doesn't roll over
- This covers Robux purchases and experience subscriptions
Good to know: Gift card redemptions are not affected by spending limits. If your child has a gift card, they can still redeem it regardless of the limit. Also, Roblox spending limits do not apply on Xbox — set a separate limit on the console if needed.
Step 2: Turn On Spend Notifications
Same section → Spending notifications → choose a level:
- All transactions — notified for every purchase (recommended to start)
- High spend alerts — notified at $100, $250, and $500 thresholds
- None — you may still get notifications from payment processors
High spend alerts are on by default, but All transactions gives you the clearest picture while you're learning.
Step 3: Set a Daily Screen Time Limit
Parental Controls → Screen time → Manage → Screen time limit → select from the Daily limit dropdown.
- When the limit is reached, your child sees a message and Roblox is blocked for the rest of the day
- A 7-day average chart shows you their recent usage
- You can also view their Top 20 experiences from the last week — helpful for understanding what they actually play
Pick a limit that matches your family's routine. You can always adjust it later.
Talk Together
Ask your child: "Can you show me something you bought with Robux? Was it worth it?"
Ask your child: "Which game do you think you play the most? Let's check the screen time insights and see if you're right."
Ask your child: "If a game kept asking you to spend Robux, what would you do?"
